It's quiet out there!
A few 'good ones' are making
it to tick-lists, but these are mostly ssps who are still hanging about out
there
• Tufted duck - Neah Bay
• Palm warbler - Neah Bay, 3 Crabs, Ediz Hook
• Harris's sparo - Neah Bay at Nancy's feeders
• Ruddy turnstone - Ediz Hook
• Bohemian waxwing - Dungeness
Mandy Holmgren skied up into
Deer Park [1.30] where she found x75 Bohemians. This is a good sighting cuz
it's back along the N fringes of the Olympics - where historically, most of
CC's Bohemian sightings over the years have been made.
• Willet - Harmony continues her 3rd winter on Dungeness Bay
• Snow goose - Olympic Game Farm x3
• Eared grebe on PA Harbor
• Turkey vulture - several sightings from Sequim-Dungeness
• Black legged kittiwake - Elwha River & Neah Bay [1.29]
• Short eared owl - Schmuck Road area [1.27]
• White throated sparo - x2 Dungeness [2.16]
• Orange crowned warbler - numerous locations; singing!
• Northern shrike - at least x14 different birds fm Neah Bay
to
Diamond Point
• Canvasback - Graysmarsh area ponds [1.31]
• Screech, Pygmy, and Saw whet owls / Woods road over to
Jimmey-come-lately
SWANS! There are x18
Trumpeters out at Neah Bay using the Wa'atch Valley environs this winter. Five
years ago there were x3 overwintering, then x7, x11, and then x14. This is the
highest tally since they started overwintering in the valley. In the greater
Dungeness-Sequim-Schmuck area a high count of 227 was tallied on January 19th by the Swan Survey Team [Enid Phreaner, et al.]. Sort of mind blowing, eh?
Swan numbers just keep increasing here. There is at least x1 [possibly x2] Tundra swans
in the area. One was found over in the Schmuck road area [1.24]; while on 2.07
one was heard talking while flying over Dungeness into roost at Roberta's pond
late evening along with x167 Trumpeters.
Across the Strait over on Vancouver Is. the Redwing has returned [2.11]. Jeremy Gatten found it in Victoria. The bird
is probably the same Redwing that has been found for three successive winters;
and it's singing! The Pink footed geese are still being seen in Sannich. A
Slaty backed gull was in Nanaimo [2.7-13]. Red throated pipits were seen in
